The Last Day

At 7:20 this morning, my alarm went off.  I groggily picked myself up out of bed, headed to the bathroom to put my contacts in and brush my teeth and hair.  As I relutantly put my "business casual" clothes on, I think, "I don't want to work today.  I'm going to miss my kids.  Ugh!  My last day, though.  Just one more day."  That seems to be enough motivation to get me to my vehicle.  I turn on my stereo and I have a recently made cd of "old-school" Beyonce, 3LW (yes, remember them?!), and Destiny's Child in my cd player.  I turn it up and jam out.  Today is going to be a good day.  At 8:00 this morning I pull into the ramp and park.  I hurry to my department and clock in.  I'm three minutes late.  Shoot!  I open my company emails and I have an email from a co-worker that puts me into tears.  She's a sweetheart.  Even though I'm excited to start a new chapter in  my life, I'm also sad to go.  I will miss all the friendly faces and the caring hearts that make up our department.  I will for sure shed a few more tears today.  But, at last, C'est la Vie my dear co-workers/friends!

The Son

Defiance - 2: disposition to resist : willingness to contend or fight.  This has been the definition of my almost four year old this last week.  Anything we tell/ask him to do,  he will either completely ignore my husband and I until the 3rd or 4th time that we reiterate what our request is of him or passionately tell us "NO!"  Oh the joys of having a free-willed, free-minded child.  For example, his naps (yes he still desperately needs them), have become a sort of world war III.  He will fight and resist.  Clinging to the stairs, crying, trying to get away so I don't pick him up and put him in bed.   My favorite is when he pretends to sleep!  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he's an extremely good actor already!  He will lay down in bed the whole time and when you go check on him, he will close his eyes and be completely relaxed and still.  his "naps" are usually about 1.5-2 hrs.   When he wakes up is the determining clue whether or not he slept.  Groggy, tired eyes, messy hair that is a little damp from sweat - nap.  Happy, bouncy,  irritates quickly - no nap.  Then it's a night filled with fighting him to eat his dinner, running all around like a crazy man, and non-stop talking <~not much different than everyday.   When nights like these are over, we hit our bed and are grateful for some peace and quiet.   I love my son.

The first entry

Okay, so I am very new to this blogging venture.  Let me start by saying, Hi!  I'm Deidre.  I'm a 23 year old mother and wife, that is about to embark on a new experience.
For the last three years I have worked in a medical call center harassing those that are sick or injured for their personal information.  (IE name, dob, address, phone number and their question for the RN)  Most people divulge this information willingly, however there are a select few that aim to make my job as impossible as their attitude.   Last week I finally did something that I've planned on doing since 3 months after starting this job.  I gave my notice.
Let's go a few months back in time.  In April, I gave birth to a beautiful little girl.  Adding yet another member to my already three person family.  (I also have a 3 year old boy.)  I took the most FM LA leave I could. 12 weeks. It was wonderful. Even the getting up in the wee hours of the morning to feed a screaming and seemingly famished baby girl wasn't that bad.  In May we moved to my grandparents old farm about 40 minutes away from the town I work in.  When my leave was over, I was crushed.  Even though I had reduced my hours to just 40 every two weeks, it just wasn't enough time with my children.  So, my husband (we'll talk about him more later) and I made a plan.  I would give my notice to my boss and be done working.  I would become a stay-at-home mom.  Every mother's dream right?!   I love cooking and that is probably what I'm looking most forward to.  Of course, that goes along with spending time with my two wonderful children.
It took me two rough drafts and a good three weeks before I mustered up enough gumption to send that email to my boss requesting to speak with him.  My heart was pounding, my head felt light.  I was sure I was going to faint.  Walking into his office, a mere 10 feet away from my desk, felt like an eternity.  I handed him the letter that had the words, "I regret to inform you," on it.   But, to my delighted surprise, it was like he was expecting me to give my notice.  What a relief.  My last day is September 6.
I have this one plan.  Well, not necessarily a plan, more of goal.  A few things came with moving into my grandparents' house.  Some of those being my grandmother's cookbooks and recipes.  I plan on picking a cookbook of hers and cooking my way through it.  (inspired by Julie and Julia -thank you Julie Powell and thank you Hollywood play writes).  I also wanted to start a blog that depicts what it is like being a young stay-at-home mother with a 3 year old, an infant and a 26 year old (yes, that being the husband).  So, here it is.  I hope it is worth reading.  I aim to delight and maybe share a few recipes here and there.   It will be full of laughter and possibly some crying.  And yes, probably lots of venting about my significant other.
